Inspired Connections
"Only when you are centered in yourself can you establish a truly meaningful relationship with the world." - Shubhra Krishan, Essential Ayurveda
Being in right relationship with others starts with being in alignment with yourself and with your Higher Power. When you are connected to your authentic self, do you find that it is life affirming and joyful to be in relationship? And do you find that when you are disconnected from your core that relationships can be challenging and energy draining?
Consider that we have 5 primary categories of relationships. Take a moment as you read these questions and ask yourself these questions and rate yourself on a scale of 1-10 how satisfied in each of these areas you are.
SELF - Do you have enough time to practice self care? Time to think, dream, play, exercise, eat healthy, read, play in your garden. What fills you up? What refreshes and recharges you?
HIGHER POWER - Have you cultivated the relationship that you want with your Higher Power? Do you attend church, participate in a spiritual group, pray or meditate, read inspiring spiritual works? When you feel connected, do you feel more supported and in the flow? When you feel disconnected, do you find that life is more challenging?
OTHERS - (life partner, children, parents, family, friends) - Do you enjoy quality time with the most important people in your life? Do you have time with your immediate family to talk, laugh, share about the important events in your days? Do you have a nurturing and supportive relationship with your extended family - one that works for you and feels good? Is there enough time to savor your friendships, talk on the phone, attend book club, play golf, go for walks, have reunions with old friends?
COMMUNITY - (school, church, government) - What kinds of service activities do you enjoy? Are you involved in your kids schooling? Would you like to go back to school yourself? Are you interested or inspired to volunteer at your church or in your government or in volunteer activities within your town or city?
BUSINESS/WORK - (business itself, employees, boss, partner, clients, colleagues) - Has your business or job taken over your life? Do you have an easy relationship with the people you work with or is it strained in any way? Do you love the clients you serve or do they drive you crazy?
If you gave yourself less than a "5" in any category, then it might be worth your while to look at that area of your life and see what inspired actions you can take to start improving it. The changes you make don't need to be big ones… the simple act of being aware that you want to make improvements will start you on the path to happier and healthier relationships in all areas of your life.
